July 2003: Several bills in Congress seek to legislate the Bush Administration's so-called "Healthy Forests Initiative," opening up the National Forests to increased commercial timber extraction in backcountry wildlands under the guise of hazardous fuels reduction while neglecting to target legitimate projects near communities at-risk from wildfire.
